Coconut Creek Police Officer Hiring Process

1. Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a United States citizen at time of application (non-certified)
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be of good moral character and never have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the United States Armed Forces
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successfully pass a psychological evaluation, medical examination, drug screen, and background check

Florida Certified Applicants - Proof of FDLE certification.

Out of State / Federal Applicants – Will be required to obtain Florida State certification within the first six months.


2. Pre-application Process

  • CJBAT (non-certified only) valid for four years
  • Swim test no expiration
  • Physical agility test valid for six months
  • Testing is provided at Broward College’s Institute of Public Safety.  Contact the college or visit their website for more information.
  • Application and background questionnaire.  May be obtained from City Hall or online under Help Center - Employment.

3. Required Documents

  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License with good driving record
  • Social Security card
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Official college transcripts, if applicable
  • Marriage license, if applicable
  • DD214, if applicable
  • Official case disposition documentation on any criminal cases
  • Letters of recommendation/commendation, if available
  • CJBAT scores
  • Physical agility test results
  • Swim test results

  • Oral Board
  • Psychological examination
  • Medical examination, including drug screen
  • Comprehensive background investigation, including fingerprints
