The City Attorney is appointed by the City Commission to serve as its legal advisor and to provide legal counsel to the City Manager, the City Department Heads and their staff, and appointed boards.

The City Attorney prepares and/or approves all proposed ordinances, resolutions, motions, and contracts to be considered by the City Commission. The City Attorney also provides legal opinions to the City Commissioners, the City Manager, City staff, and appointed boards on municipal government matters, including interpretation of the City Charter, ordinances, state and federal statutes, and other regulatory materials and cases.

In addition, the City Attorney represents the City and/or supervises outside counsel in all litigation matters.
