The Lyons Road Mobility project is an FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation) construction project that includes new roadway drainage, new sidewalks, new designated bike lanes, new overhead street lights, new bus rider shelters, and repaving the roadway over a distance of approximately 5.5 miles from the C-14 canal south of Atlantic Blvd to the Sawgrass Expressway.  The traveling public should be prepared to anticipate construction related travel delays during the roadway improvements.

UPDATED October 13, 2021

Overall, the Lyons Road Mobility project contractor has completed significant improvements including, but not limited to, installing new roadway drainage systems, new bike lanes  and resurfacing the roadway.  Although a large portion of the improvements are finished, the contractor has not completed all of the contracted scope of work.   At this time, the contractor is focusing on efforts to harmonize the swale areas along the entire 5.5 miles of the project’s work zone, which extends all the way to the Sawgrass Expressway.   Moving forward, the FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation) contractor will continue grading the swale areas, scheduling the necessary irrigation repairs and preparing the soil for the installation of new sod.  Other activities include:

  • Milling of the resurfacing the driveway into Tamarind Village on Friday (10/15) with coordination of the construction activity confirmed by the HOA (Home Owners Association)
  • Flatwork (sidewalk)
  • Electrical pull-box adjustments
  • Roadway harmonization (inspections to ensure project specifications have been satisfied)

UPDATED September 15, 2021

The Lyons Road Mobility Project is about five (5) months ahead of schedule and currently under budget.  The asphalt paving operation is mostly finished and the FDOT contractor will be making final amendments to the job site with repairing existing irrigation systems, installing new sod along the corridor, the construction of new curb cut ramps at pedestrian crossings at signalized intersections along with other minor improvements.  Although additional work still remains, early projections anticipate the project to be completed at the end of October 2021.

Weekly Asphalt is scheduled to begin paving the Lyons Road northbound right turn lane at Copans Road and the southbound right turn lane at Winston Park Blvd weather permitting on Thursday (7/22).  Lastly, the contractor anticipates resuming asphalt paving operations on mainline (Lyons Road outside travel lanes) in the area of Coconut Creek Boulevard northbound at the end of this week or early next week - weather permitting.

UPDATED JULY 12, 2021

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) contractor, Weekly Asphalt, will not be performing paving operations this week.  In lieu of paving, the contractor will be performing other construction related services.  As a result, there should be a minimum impact to travel conditions within the Lyons Road work zone.

UPDATED JULY 7, 2021
Due to inclement weather during the past week, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project on Lyons Road will be completing the following through July 9th:

  • Milling and resurfacing four (4) turn lanes near Winston Park Boulevard and the Sawgrass Expressway
  • Milling and resurfacing the travel lanes on northbound Lyons Road from Coconut Creek Parkway towards Copans Road on Thursday and Friday

UPDATED JUNE 29, 2021
The FDOT  project on Lyons Road will be completing the following this week (6/28 thru 7/2)

  • Milling and resurfacing the travel lanes on northbound Lyons Road from Coconut Creek Parkway towards Copans Road on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

  • The project limits extend from the C-14 canal located south of Atlantic Boulevard to the Sawgrass Expressway.  Within the work zone and project limits, there are utility valve covers that are located within Lyons Road travel lanes.  Prior to the contractor beginning asphalt milling and resurfacing operation, the contractor will be making field adjustments to the height of the utility valve boxes.  As a result, there may be areas within the project limits that will have temporary Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) in-place to allow for the utility adjustments to be completed.  In addition to the paving operation within the main line, there are other areas where travel lanes on Lyons Road may be reduced by one (1) travel lane.  The duration of the work to adjust a valve box is approximately a couple of hours.
